In 2020, after all labour contracts at Abbey Games were terminated, programmer Rutger Harder, designer Rick Sorgdrager - two now ex-Abbey employees - started a fresh new company: Roost Games.

It didn’t take long before another ex-Abbey employee, animator Carmen van Sleeuwen, joined as a founder. In little over half a year, this newfound team built a very impressive alpha version of their first game: ***Cat Cafe Manager.***

By the time they wanted to get the word out about the project in September 2020, they reached out to me. During our first conversations, it quickly became clear that the team wasn’t necessarily looking for a marketeer, but for someone who could help them get the right connections in order to (partially) fund and market the game. They were looking for a business developer!

Since I was still recovering from the big C but eager to do something again ánd to get in touch with friends in the games industry, this came as just the right job at just the right time. Over the course of a couple of months, I consulted the Roost Games team on their pitch and business plans. In the meantime, I seeded the project and its funding requirements within my network.

After a lot of emails, phone calls, and especially a lot of waiting, in spring 2021 we managed to sign a publishing deal with Freedom Games to ensure the release of Cat Cafe Manager on PC and Nintendo Switch. In April 2022, the release was a fact!
